Happy President’s Day!

When one thinks of competent musicians, a few names that may come to mind include Beethoven, Haydn, Schubert, and….Bill Clinton? Believe it or not, you read that correctly. Thomas Jefferson, as well as other United States Presidents such as Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon, was a skilled musician. The artistic talents of these great men are often overlooked because of the immensity of their political careers. With President’s Day fast approaching, we believe that now is the perfect time to unveil the hidden artistic abilities of past U.S. Presidents.

Thomas Jefferson was an artist. Specifically, he was a musician who played the violin. Jefferson probably became a proficient violinist by the age of 14. He was reportedly a fanatic who purchased music frequently and was keenly interested in instruments. This United States President also sang, read music, and had his children educated in the subject. At one point in his adult life, Jefferson was said to have played the violin about three hours per day. It’s obvious that this amazing individual had capabilities that reached far beyond the political arena.

Richard Nixon was also an excellent musician, his main instrument being the piano. In fact, Mr. Nixon was so skilled at playing piano that he made a musical appearance on “The Tonight Show” in 1963. He proudly performed a concerto that he had written and was accompanied by a live orchestra. America responded positively to his performance, and the studio audience wildly applauded their musically gifted President.

Colorful Roses on Valentine’s Day Communicate Love

The goal of most lovers on Valentine’s Day is to communicate love to their significant other. For these blessed people, Valentine’s Day is a much anticipated holiday that brings fulfillment and joy. Individuals in romantic relationships often seek to find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for their loved one, and more often than not that gift ends up being a bouquet of roses. Depending upon their color, roses can communicate different types and intensities of love.

What color of roses communicates romantic love? Red, just as you probably guessed. Traditionally, red roses have symbolized passion, energy, and deep love. Red roses are best reserved for communicating intimate, romantic love. Given to someone you see in a platonic light, red roses could send a message you don’t intend, so be careful who you gift this type of flower to!

Whether or not you are in a romantic relationship, you may want to send roses to a dearly loved friend or family member on Valentine’s Day. No matter what you want to communicate, be it purity, friendship, admiration, etc., specific colors of roses can help you get your message across:

White — Love (especially of a spiritual nature), humility, reverence, and purity
Yellow — “Presents a ‘welcome back’ sentiment,” gladness, joy, and friendship
Pink — Innocence, affection, and understanding

For people who long to be in romantic relationships but simply haven’t found that special someone, Valentine’s Day can be an unhappy time. Everything these individuals see on February 14th reminds them that their desires are going unfulfilled. You can make Valentine’s Day special for these people by surprising them with roses. Since you want to avoid communicating a romantic message to such individuals, try sending them roses in the following colors:

Light pink — Gentility, grace, friendship, and admiration
Peach — Sincerity, sympathy, modesty, and gratitude
Dark pink — Appreciation, gratitude, thankfulness

It is the rare person who does not associate roses with Valentine’s Day, and for good reason: These classic flowers are excellent communicators of love in its various forms. Inspirational Tips to Boost your Artistic Creativity

At one point or another, all artists have felt as if their creativity suddenly dried up. Artistic block is the reason some of the most prominent individuals in the art world traveled abroad or locked themselves in a tiny studio. They were seeking artistic inspiration.

If you are looking for inspiration, this post is all about helping you discover a muse to jump start your creative ambition.

Being an artist means you constantly have to assess yourself

Start by asking yourself a few questions.

At what point during the day do I feel most creative?
When throughout the day do I have the most energy?
When was the last time I had a moment to myself?
When was the last time I spent a decent amount of time away from my studio?

These questions will provide you with a baseline for boosting your creativity. They should help you discern which habits are conducive to your creativity, and which are deterring you from success. Now let’s examine some specific ways you can seek out inspiration.

Here are some simple things you can do to jumpstart your creativity:

Do you keep an art-idea journal? If you don’t already have one, an idea journal will help you start focusing ideas. Returning to your journal entries at a later date will come in handy should you encounter artistic block again.
When was the last time you cleaned your workspace? A little cleaning and organization might be just what you need to clear your head and find a fresh start.
When was the last time you thought about the mood of your studio? Try opening a window, relocating your easel or turning on the music. All of these small changes can offer you a new perspective and create an inspirational mood. Finding a new place to create for a day might help you tap into a different mindset.
When was the last time you engaged in your favorite hobby? You never know when an inspirational experience might come your way. Go out and try something new, or take the time to rediscover a beloved activity.

A Summer Activity for Leisure Days

Summer days are notorious for bright sun, hot temperatures and endless activities. The irony here is that summer days are also supposed to be days of leisure. This is why lounging around inside is okay even when the sun is bright. In fact, one of the most enjoyable things about a summer day is air conditioning!
